Driving conditions around Sao Paulo are good and many people choose to drive outside of the city and visit Rio de Janeiro, which lies just over 400 km / 643 km the north-east, a six-hour drive. Part way along the route is the town of Paraty, which has become a particularly popular tourist destination.
When driving around Sao Paulo itself you will be overwhelmed by the concentration of high-rise buildings, many of which line the Tiete River. Plenty of car parks can be found around the city, although the most centrally located are always busy. A number of further car parks are located along the nearby coastline, to the south-east of Sao Paulo, around the resort and beaches of Santos.
